Skills and Experience Required
  • Minimum two years of experience working as a Chef in an Indian commercial kitchen.
  • Proven experience in both curry and tandoori sections.
  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery.
  • Positive Skills Assessment as a Chef.
  • Strong knowledge of traditional Indian cooking methods, spices and flavour profiles.
  • Ability to prepare authentic curries, tandoori dishes, biryanis, naan and roti.
  • Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and sanitation requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication and team-management skills.
  • Creativity and passion for authentic Indian cuisine.
Key Responsibilities
  • Create diverse and authentic Indian menus that appeal to a wide range of tastes.
  • Incorporate traditional Indian recipes with creative and modern variations.
  • Oversee ingredient preparation and ensure traditional cooking techniques are followed.
  • Prepare and cook curries, tandoori dishes, biryanis, naan, roti and other Indian specialities.
  • Ensure consistency in the taste, quality, portion size and presentation of every dish.
  • Conduct regular tastings and inspect dishes before service.
  • Supervise all aspects of food preparation, cooking and presentation.
  • Manage and coordinate the daily activities of the kitchen team.
  • Train and mentor kitchen staff in Indian cooking techniques and flavour profiles.
  • Educate team members about the cultural significance and authenticity of Indian dishes.
  • Monitor food stock levels and manage kitchen inventory.
  • Order ingredients and supplies according to operational requirements.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with suppliers.
  • Ensure fresh, high-quality ingredients are sourced and used.
  • Monitor kitchen equipment and arrange maintenance when required.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety.
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation, workplace safety and food-handling regulations.
  • Minimise food waste through careful planning, storage and portion control.
  • Support a positive, professional and productive kitchen environment.
