Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Retail Buyer to manage the sourcing, selection and purchasing of organic, natural and specialty grocery products. This role is suitable for a commercially focused professional who understands retail buying, supplier management and customer demand within the grocery or FMCG sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage product ranges across fresh produce, pantry, dairy and specialty organic grocery categories.
  • Source and select organic, biodynamic, natural and specialty products from suppliers, growers and wholesale markets.
  • Maintain a high-quality product range in line with customer demand, seasonal availability and business requirements.
  • Analyse sales performance, customer buying trends and market movements to forecast purchasing needs.
  • Conduct supplier sourcing and purchasing activities, including early morning market procurement when required.
  • Negotiate pricing, order quantities, delivery schedules and supply terms with suppliers and producers.
  • Plan and place purchase orders to ensure consistent stock availability across fresh and packaged grocery lines.
  • Review product performance and make recommendations for new products, range improvements and discontinuation of underperforming items.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure reliable supply and product quality.
  • Work closely with management to align product selection with customer demand, seasonal trends and overall business strategy.
About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a Retail Buyer, Buyer, Purchasing Officer or similar commercial buying role.
  • Previous experience within retail grocery, organic food, fresh produce, FMCG or specialty food environments will be highly regarded.
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
  • Ability to analyse sales data, market trends and customer demand to make commercially sound decisions.
  • Good understanding of retail trends, product cycles, seasonal availability and consumer behaviour.
  • Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple product categories and purchasing priorities.
  • Relevant qualification in business, retail, merchandising, purchasing or a related field is preferred.
