Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose mechanical issues by assessing engine performance, identifying operational irregularities, and conducting systematic fault-finding.
  • Utilize diagnostic software and testing equipment to detect faults in engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering components, and electrical systems.
  • Dismantle engines, gearboxes, steering systems, and other mechanical assemblies to inspect parts for wear, malfunction, or damage.
  • Evaluate components against manufacturer specifications and determine appropriate repair or replacement procedures.
  • Perform repairs on a wide range of vehicle systems, including engine overhauls, transmission repairs, brake system servicing, and steering and suspension component replacements.
  • Reassemble mechanical components with precision, ensuring correct alignment, torque settings, and operational reliability.
  • Conduct scheduled servicing, such as oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, cooling system checks, and engine tune-ups, to maintain optimal vehicle performance.
  • Test repaired vehicles to confirm proper functioning, making necessary adjustments to mechanical components to meet safety, performance, and efficiency standards.
  • Consult workshop manuals and technical specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with manufacturer requirements.
  • Carry out inspections to identify work needed to meet roadworthiness criteria and assist in preparing vehicles for certification when applicable.
  • Maintain detailed service records, including diagnostic findings, parts used, repairs completed, and recommended future maintenance.
  • Contribute to a clean, organized, and safety-conscious workshop environment by adhering to workplace health and safety practices.
  • Stay informed about modern diagnostic techniques, updated automotive technologies, and evolving repair standards.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Certificate IV in Automotive or a closely related qualification.
  • A minimum of one year of recent, relevant experience as a Motor Mechanic.
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing all major mechanical systems.
  • Ability to confidently use hand tools, power tools, and computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to delivering quality outcomes.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as within a team.
