Job Description

An Assistant Instructor at Go Ride A Wave supports qualified surf instructors in delivering safe, fun, and educational surf and beach-based lessons to participants of all ages and skill levels.
You’ll work under supervision while helping clients gain confidence in the water, ensuring safety, and creating a positive learning experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist instructors during surf, SUP (stand-up paddleboard), or kayaking lessons.
  • Help set up and pack down surfboards, wetsuits, and other equipment.
  • Support students in the water — guiding, pushing boards, and offering encouragement.
  • Maintain high safety standards and follow ocean safety protocols.
  • Engage participants with friendly, motivating communication.
  • Help conduct theory sessions on beach safety, surf etiquette, and techniques.
  • Clean, maintain, and organize surf equipment after sessions.
  • Report any incidents, equipment issues, or hazards to the Instructor-in-Charge.
  • Promote a fun, inclusive, and safe beach environment for all guests.

Qualifications Required

Surf Life Saving Bronze MedallionDemonstrates strong swimming, rescue, and safety knowledge.
First Aid Certificate (Level 2 or higher)Must be current and valid in Australia.
CPR CertificateUpdated annually.
Working with Children Check (WWCC)Mandatory for anyone teaching or assisting children.
Experience (Preferred)Prior surf experience or involvement with surf clubs / lifesaving.
DesirableCertificate III in Outdoor Recreation, or equivalent water safety training.
