Job Description

Melvic Steel Framing Pty Ltd is seeking a qualified and experienced Fabrication Welder to join our team in Pakenham, Victoria. The successful candidate will undertake TIG and MIG welding, metal fabrication and assembly work for steel-framing and construction projects.

The role involves working with mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium components while following technical drawings, measurements and fabrication specifications. Applicants must be committed to producing accurate, high-quality work while complying with workplace health and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform TIG and MIG welding on mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium components.
  • Fabricate steel frames, brackets, structural components and other metal products.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, fabrication plans, measurements and specifications.
  • Cut, bend, shape, fit and assemble metal components using appropriate machinery and hand tools.
  • Position and secure components using jigs, clamps and measuring equipment before welding.
  • Inspect completed welds and fabricated products to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Identify welding defects and complete required repairs or adjustments.
  • Operate workshop machinery, cutting tools, grinders and welding equipment safely.
  • Maintain tools, machinery and work areas in a clean and serviceable condition.
  • Follow company procedures, Australian Standards and Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience as a Fabrication Welder, Metal Fabricator or in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience in TIG and MIG welding.
  • Experience working with mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, measurements and fabrication specifications.
  • Experience cutting, bending, fitting and assembling metal components.
  • Strong understanding of welding quality and inspection requirements.
  • Ability to use workshop machinery, welding equipment and hand tools safely.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate weld finishes.
  • Good time-management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
  • Knowledge of WHS requirements and safe workshop practices.
Qualifications
  • Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or an equivalent qualification.
  • Certificate IV in Engineering or Fabrication will be highly regarded.
  • Relevant welding tickets or licences will be advantageous.
  • Relevant industry experience may be considered where supported by demonstrated skills
